How is it done: Energy Audits and Home Performance Tests

Home performance tests and energy audits focus on how well your house functions as a complete system. The building shell, insulation, heating/cooling systems, and ventilation all work together to keep you comfortable and healthy. In building science this is know as "House as a System".

When we test your house these are things we look at to evaluate how well your home is performing:

  • The air leaks in/out of your home's walls, ceilings, and floors (see photo)
  • How much insulation you have, how well it is installed, and how it is functioning
  • Indoor moisture levels
  • Ventilation systems to make sure you are breathing healthy indoor air
  • Carbon Monoxide levels in the house
  • Testing of carbon monoxide sources (gas stove, furnace, hot water heater)
  • Heating and cooling equipment condition, efficiencies, and sizing
  • How tight the duct systems - leak testing
  • We test for pressure balance throughout the living space that can cause comfort and/or safety issues

In addition to the tests above we analyze your Gas and Electric bills to help identify where your energy dollars are flowing. We can look for potential opportunities to save energy and money by repairing or replacing inefficient lighting or appliances.
